Biography

Dr. Changjiu Zhou is currently the Centre Director of the Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Control Centre (ARICC), a Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) at the Singapore Polytechnic. He is the founder of the Humanoid Robotics Group, Robo-Erectus, which is one of the foremost leading teams in the humanoid league. Before joining Singapore Polytechnic in 1996, he was an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science of Dalian Jiaotong University, China. He is currently a guest professor at Jilin University, China. He is a member of the RoboCup Executive Committee. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Humanoid Robotics (IJHR) and the IES Journal B: Intelligent Devices and Systems (IDS). He has also served as guest editor for several international journal special issues, e.g. International Journal of Humanoid Robotics, Fuzzy Set and Systems and Autonomous Robotics Systems. His current research interests include intelligent robotic systems, computational intelligence, humanoid robotics, robotic soccer systems, edutainment robots, machine learning, intelligent control, multi-sensor fusion and bio-inspired robotic systems. He has about 150 research publications including 3 edited-books published by Springer.

Biography

Marcelo H. Ang, Jr. received the B.S. degrees (Cum Laude) in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management Engineering from the De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines, in 1981; the M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Un iversity of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1985; and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York, in 1986 and 1988, respectively. His work experience include heading the Technical Training Division of Intel's Assembly and Test Facility in the Philippines, research positions at the East West Center in Hawaii and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rochester, New York. In 1989, Dr. Ang joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the National University of Singapore, where he is currently an Associate Professor. In addition to academic and research activities, he is actively involved in the Singapore Robot ic Games as its founding chairman. His research interests span the areas of robotics, mechatronics, automation, computer control, and applications of intelligent systems methodologies.

Biography

Dr I-Ming Chen has been with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore since 1995. He is currently Director of Intelligent Systems Center in NTU, a partnership between Singapore Technology Engineering Ltd. and NTU. He was JSPS Visiting Scholar in Kyoto University, Japan in 1999, Visiting Scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of MIT in 2004, and Fellow of Singapore-MIT Alliance under Innovation in Manufacturing Systems and Technology (IMST) Program (2002-2007). He is also Adjunct Professor of Xian Jiao Tong University, China (2002-2007). His research interests are in wearable sensors, human-robot interaction, reconfigurable automation, parallel kinematics machines (PKM), biomorphic underwater robots, and smart material based actuators. Dr. Chen has published more than 170 technical articles in refereed international journals and conferences. He is now serving on the editorial board of IEEE Transactions on Robotics, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, Robotica (Cambridge Univ Press), and Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering (Springer-Verlag). He was General Chair of IEEE International Conference on Cybernetics, Intelligent Systems and Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics (CIS-RAM) 2006, Bangkok, Thailand and is General Chair of 2009 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM'09) in Singapore 14-17 July 2009. He is He is a senior member of IEEE and member of ASME, and member of RoboCup Singapore National Committee. He had been Chairman of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Singapore Chapter from 2003-2005, Chairman of Prototyping for Robotics and Automation Technical Committee under IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (2003-2007), Council member of Singapore Industrial Automation Association (2001-2003), and Chairman of Singapore Committee for the Technologies of Machines and Mechanisms (SicToMM - country member of IFToMM) from 2001 to 2003.

Biography

Cheng Wee Kiang is a Programme Manager for Robotics in DSTA Land Systems. He manages the development of ground robotics and it's enabling technologies. In his ten years with DSTA, he managed several robotics projects including the R&D of and autonomous legged robot and the full-scale-development of the chemical, biological, radiation and explosive (CBRE) robotic suite for the SAF.

He read Mechanical Engineering at National University of Singapore and graduated with Bachelor of Engineering in 1998. In 2003-04, he was awarded a DSTA postgraduate scholarship and attained a double Masters of Science (Defence Technology and Combat Systems) from NUS and US Naval Postgraduate School under a joint programme by Temasek Defence Systems Institute.

Biography

Dr Chew Chee Meng received his B.Eng. Degree (Mechanical) (First Class Honours) from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991 and; SM and PhD degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1998 and 2000, respectively. From 1991 to 1994, he was an Engineer cum Manager in a lubricants company in Singapore. In 1994, he joined NUS as a Senior Tutor and received the NUS Overseas Scholarship to pursue his PhD degree in MIT. After completing his PhD degree in 2000, he returned to NUS to serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NUS. He is currently an Associate Professor in the same department. His main research interests are in Humanoid Robotics, Biomimetic Systems, Actuator Design and Sensor Fusion. He is currently a member of IEEE and has been actively involved in the local chapters of the IEEE Robotics and Automation; and Systems, Man, and Cybernetics societies. He has initiated the department student humanoid project team, Team RO-PE, which has participated in the humanoid league, RoboCup, since 2004.

Biography

Dr Meng Joo Er is currently a professor with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE). He served as Director of the Intelligent Systems Centre, a University Research Centre co-funded by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Engineering Technologies from 2003 to 2006. His research interests include control theory and applications, fuzzy logic and neural networks, computational intelligence, cognitive systems, robotics and automation, sensor networks and biomedical engineering. He has authored two books entitled "Dynamic Fuzzy Neural Networks: Architectures, Algorithms and Applications" and "Engineering Mathematics with Real-World Applications" published by McGraw Hill in 2003 and 2005 respectively, eight book chapters and more than 300 refereed journal and conference papers in his research areas of interest.

Biography

Dr Li Haizhou is a Principal Scientist and the Department Head of Human Language Technology, and the Program Manager of Social Robotics in the Institute for Infocomm Research. He was named one of the two Nokia Visiting Professors by Nokia Foundation in 2009. He was a recipient of the National Infocomm Award 2001 in Singapore. He now serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, and the Springer International Journal of Social Robotics. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE, an elected Board Member of the International Speech Communication Association, and the Asian Federation of Natural Language Processing.
